Preventative care is the most important thing you can do for your teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings are imperative for your dental and overall health. We recommend one annual dental exam and cleanings twice a year to help stay cavity free. We provide cleanings and exams at a reasonable cost, to help take away another excuse for skipping the dentist.

Digital X-Rays

Digital Xrays reduce your time in the dental chair and limit your radiation exposure by more than 25% compared to traditional film radiographs. We can take a panoramic full mouth image in less than a minute. No gagging and choking during dental xrays anymore.

Sealants

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. After the permanent molars arrive a composite material can be placed on top to prevent decay in the deep grooves of the tooth. This fast and painless procedure can prevent decay in the common areas of the mouth. Often covered by insurance for youth- check your plan today!

Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing)

You might hear your hygienist recommend a deep cleaning or SRP. The procedure includes numbing and cleaning the pockets of pus created by bacteria underneath the gum line. The health of your gums is just as important as your teeth. Periodontal disease (or gum disease) is a common condition with varying degrees of severity from bleeding, swollen gums, and bad breath to bone recession and heart disease. This is probably the most important and understated dental procedure to maintain long-term oral health. Read about home care here

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If you are looking for a whiter smile, in office whitening can make your teeth up to six to eight shades lighter in 45 minutes. We recommend a recent dental cleaning to remove any stains and allow full effectiveness of the whitening gel. We also make custom trays and provide whitening gel for take home whitening treatments.

Emergency Service

We can help in a dental emergency. Dr. Baxter gives out his cell phone to reach him in the evening, night, and weekends. Toothaches, accidents, and other dental emergencies are never convenient. But you can call or text Dr. Baxter for advice (808-280-3238). If it's life threatening, call 911 and go to the Emergency room. Otherwise give Dr. Baxter a few hours to respond as he might be not have his phone at that time. If needed he will come to the office, call in prescriptions, or simply give advice to help remedy the situation. There is an additional after hours fee should Dr. Baxter come into the office to provide treatment. This service is limited to regular clients of Kahului Dental.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

We have elected to use tooth-colored material made of a durable resin that contains no mercury or metals. This composite material is much more aesthetic, often indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Same-Day Crown & Bridge

A crown (or cap) covers and protects a damaged tooth so you can continue to smile and chew for years to come. A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth. Technology has advanced to make crowns and bridges look and feel like a natural tooth. You'd be surprised how common these are among your friends, family, and coworkers.  Learn more

Dental Implants

A dental implant fills the space of a missing tooth restoring function and your smile. With 3D imaging and implant planning software, we can capture a 3D image of your mouth and jaw. The software combined with the 3D image helps ensure accurate placement of the implant for your specific anatomy. Then a 3D guide can be milled in office that fits onto the adjacent teeth with the exact location mapped for the implant placement taking out any guesswork during the procedure. Dr. Baxter traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico to improve and fine tune his implant placement for his clientele at Kahului Dental.

Root Canal Therapy

Extreme dental pain is often indicative of the nerve of a tooth dying. Root canal therapy alleviates this pain by removing the nerve and still keeping the tooth for chewing and smiling. A common misconception is that the root of the tooth is removed. The root and tooth remain intact, while the nerve and source of pain located in the center of the tooth are removed and filled. It is usually recommended to put a crown (or cap) on a root canal tooth as the tooth often becomes brittle after the nerve is removed. Dr. Baxter completed his residency at Queen's Medical Center where he received guidance in root canal therapy from some of the best endodontists in Honolulu.

Extractions

From baby teeth to wisdom teeth, dental extractions are easily handled at Kahului Dental. Dr. Baxter completed a residency at Queen's Medical Center allowing hands on training with some of the best oral surgeons in Honolulu. Read about home care here

Dentures

Many different scenarios can lead to loss of teeth. Partial or full dentures are a great solution to improve your smile and chewing capacity. In addition, dentures can improve your speech, protect against facial sagging, and improve dental health.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Nitrous Oxide also known as laughing gas can help reduce anxiety or uneasiness about dental procedures. Nitrous can be very effective and is easily adjustable to fit patient need. Once completed the effects of nitrous are gone almost immediately. Let us know if this is something you might require before your dental visit.
